Contractor Continuing Education On-Line Courses

Gold Coast Schools offers individual online courses and complete board or specialty packages. Board packages include ALL mandatory hours (i.e. Advanced, Workplace Safety, Workers Comp, Business Practices, Wind Mitigation, Laws & Rules, Accessibility and Ethics). You can purchase online courses individually or in a discounted package.

Note: Dade County Contractors can only take 25% of their course hours online.


Principles of Florida Statutes & Rules -2hrs: 
An overview of the structure of Florida Statutes and Florida Administrative Codes with a more detailed look at the individual Statutes and Rules impacting licensees.

Advanced Training - Florida Accessibility Code Updates– 2 hrs: 
Approved by the FBC as an Advanced Module course. Highlights include important 2012 updates and changes to the 2010 Florida Accessibility Code.

Wind Mitigation Methodologies 2010: Strengthening the Roofing System- 1hr: 
Satisfies the CILB – Wind Mitigation Methodology requirement. A look at new roofing code requirements to improve the structural integrity of roofing systems during the retrofit process.

Ethics in the Construction Industry- 2hr: 
A look at what the components of sound ethics really are and how this applies to those engaged in the construction industry. Addresses ethical dilemmas faced by contractors and inspectors. Learn the conflict resolution skills you need to build your reputation.
Note: This course meets the BCAIB 1 hour ethics training course requirement and provides 1 hour of general CE credit as well.

A comprehensive look at the 2010 Florida Building Code volumes and highlights of individual chapters. See how the code chapters are interrelated and work together. Helps you as a licensee comply with current codes to build a safer living and working environment. 

Building Code Basics – 2hr:
The Building Code Basics course is a brief overview of the structure, volumes, and highlights contained in the 2010 Florida Building Code. This course examines the Building, Residential, and Existing Building volumes. Learning how the code chapters are interrelated and work together will help you, as a licensee, to become more familiar with current codes and how to identify the more important technical requirements in the code. 

False Alarm Prevention - 2 hr: 
An overview of proven false alarm prevention techniques and best practices to save your clients money, improve yor business. This course meets the 2 hour CE requirement for Electrical Contractors engaged in the alarm system contracting industry. 

Ethics for the Construction Professional – 1hr:
The one hour course that will satisfy the BCAI Boards new Ethics Training Requirement. A look at what the components of sound ethics really are and how this applies to those engaged in the construction industry. Addresses ethical dilemmas faced by contractors and inspectors. Learn the conflict resolution skills you need to build your reputation.

Workplace Safety: A look at OSHA - 1hr:
The one hour course that will satisfy the CILB (contractors’) requirement for continuing education training in workplace safety. A brief look at OSHA, it’s origins, structure and requirements. Leave with a better understanding of why OSHA training is so important in the construction industry.  

Workers’ Comp an Overview - 1hr:
The one hour course that will satisfy the CILB (contractors’) requirement for continuing education training in workers’ compensation. A brief look at workers comp, its origins, statutory structure and legal requirements. Leave with a better understanding of why Workers’ Compensation training is mandated in the construction industry and how it impacts you and your business. 

Successful Business Practices - 1hr:
The one hour course that will satisfy the CILB (contractors’) requirement for continuing education training in Business Practices. A brief look at how your business can best meet statutory legal requirements while maximizing efficiency and profitability. Explains how to communicate these requirements in an effective way to all in your organization. Leave with a better understanding of why Successful Business Practice training is mandated in the construction industry and how it impacts you and your business 

Know Your 2010 Building Code! – 3hr:
A more abbreviated look at the Florida Building Code structure, volumes, and highlights of the 2010 Florida Building Code: Building, Residential, Existing Building, Energy Conservation, Mechanical, and Plumbing Volumes. See how the code chapters are interrelated and work together. Helps you as a licensee comply with current codes to build a safer living and working environment. 

Green Buildings & the Construction Professional - 3hr:
This 3 hour course provides an overview of the Green Building Movement, it’s meaning & goals and the 3 rating systems that are used (LEED, Green Building Coalition, ICC National Green Building Standard). This is followed by look at the Florida Building Code and the recent changes to Chapter 13; Energy Code. The course finishes with a comprehensive look at Photovoltaic Systems (solar energy systems), how they work, how they are installed and the NEC codes that apply. 

Contracting in Broward County - A Review of Chapter 9 - 1 hr:
State Registered Contractors who hold Certificates of Competency (CC’s) in Broward County are now required by ordinance to complete 14 hours of continuing education every two years, which now includes 1hr of training in Chapter 9 of the Broward County Ordinances. Additionally, local Broward County Specialty Contractors are required by ordinance to complete 4 hours of continuing education every two years, which includes 1 hours of training in Chapter 9 of the Broward County Ordinances. This course, which is a review of Chapter 9, provides an overview of the licensing categories, permitting processes, and enforcement provisions contained in this ordinance. This course has been approved by the Broward County Construction Trades Central Examining Board to meet the new 1 hour Broward County specific CE requirement. 

Contracting in Dade County - 2hr:
Registered Contractors who hold Certificates of Competency (CC’s) in Miami-Dade County are required by ordinance to complete 16 hours of continuing education every biennium. This course which is an overview of Chapter 10 of the Miami-Dade Ordinances, looks at contractor license categories, divisions & scopes of work. This course has been approved by the Miami-Dade CTQB to meet the 2 hour Miami-Dade specific CE requirement. NOTE: by Miami Dade Ordinance, contractors licensed by the CTQB can only take 25% of their courses online.
